Here’s the music video for the first track from Gorillaz “The Fall” album. They produced the album using iPad apps (see full list of apps below). According to their album site (sign up for their newsletter to listen to all tracks OR just click on the “I’m on the mailing list” link):
All tracks written and performed by Gorillaz using the iPad and additional instruments: Korg Vocoder, Ukelele, Microkorg, Omnichord, Moog Voyager, Melodica, Guitar, Piano, Korg Monotron. Except track 13 written and performed by Gorillaz and Bobby Womack. Recorded between Montreal and Vancouver over 32 days on the Gorillaz North American Tour 2010
iPad Applications Used: Speak It! / SoundyThingie / Mugician / Solo Synth / Synth / Funk Box / Gliss / AmpliTube / Xenon / iElectribe / BS-16i / M3000 HD / Cleartune / iOrgel HD / Olsynth / StudioMiniXI / BassLine / Harmonizer / Dub Siren Pro / Moog Filatron
Being a decent Ukulele player myself, I found it amusing that they used the instrument in the album (see track #2, Revolving Doors), but as you can hear, ummmm. Not a great first track imo. It actually SOUNDS LIKE it was produced on an iPad. Not a good thing. I recognize that the first track may be meant as an intro and should be considered within the context of the entire album, but still. I almost feel like the first track is some sort of practical joke. At any rate, some of the other tracks are much better. Still, something seems missing compared to their prior work.
(I’m surprised they didn’t use one my favorite music apps, INTUA’s BeatMaker.)
