Thanks to Apple’s Find My iPhone feature AND A POLICE HELICOPTER, Australian police was able to track down a 16 year old kid trying to make a getaway ON A BIKE after stealing someone’s iPhone. Uh. Ok. I can maayyyybe understand if it was a police iPhone, but it was just some woman’s iPhone. Really?
Living in LA, you get used to seeing/hearing police helicopters flying around above you. I always assumed they were tracking down mass murderers, mob bosses, drug king pins, and the like. At least I’m sure they’re not tracking down 16 year old kids on bikes with a stolen iPhone… Or at least I hope not.
The cost of the Australian police mission was probably 20-100x the cost of the iPhone when you factor in wages, equipment use, fuel, and future muni court resources. What a waste of money.
On the other hand… Maybe I can get the Australian SWAT team to take down my dirty neighbor, who I suspect is not cleaning up his dog’s poop out in front of our apartments?
